Kuramoto Ryosuke is an Associate Professor in the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, the University of Tokyo. Specializing in the anthropology of religion, he has published a monograph on monks’ lives in Theravāda Buddhism in Myanmar (Burma), 世俗を生きる出家者たち—上座仏教徒社会ミャンマーにおける出家生活の民族誌 [The Hermits Living in This World: An Ethnography of Renunciation in Theravāda Buddhism in Myammar] (Hōzōkan, 2014), which won the International Institute for the Study of Religions prize in 2016.
