Open Search for Research Fellow Position
The Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture (Nanzan University) is taking applications for a position at the Institute as a full-time Research Fellow.
Job Title: Institute Research Fellow (Assistant/Associate Professor)
Number of hires: 2 (two) (Type A: focused on research in Japanese; Type B: focused on research in English)
Affiliation: Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture (Nanzan University)
Specialization: Religious Studies
Duties:
1. Maintain personal research;
2. Participate in the research activities of the Institute (e.g. apply for and run research projects; plan academic meetings; attend academic conferences, edit Institute publications—Type B will focus in particular on the Japanese Journal of Religious Studies);
3. Teach a maximum of 12 credit hours per year through a nominal affiliation with a Nanzan University faculty.
Work schedule: expected daily attendance at Institute (5 days/week, in accordance with regulations for Institute Research Fellows)
Appointment: to begin either 1 April or 1 September 2018
Employment conditions:
Begin with two-year contract, renewable once for an additional two-year period. For Type B, after the second two-year period a tenured position is possible.
Qualifications (both Type A and Type B):
1. Ph.D. in an area related to Religious Studies
2. A history of academic publications and participation in international academic conferences.
3. Motivation to actively participate in the work of the Institute and related activities at the University.
4. Sufficient English-language and Japanese-language ability to fully participate in the activities of the Institute. Open to all nationalities.
5. Willingness to live in or nearby the Nagoya area.

Required documentation (both Type A and Type B):
1. Full Curriculum Vitae
2. List of Research Activities (including M.A. and Ph.D.). Mark clearly whether or not the publication was peer-reviewed.
3. Copies of five main publications (books and articles; either originals or copies; digital format accepted), including a copy of the Ph.D. dissertation and publications based on the dissertation research. The publications for which copies are provided should be marked clearly in the List of Research Activities.
4. Research proposal, briefly (1-2 pages) outlining future personal research goals and activities for the next 2 years.
5. Certificate of Ph.D. (a copy is acceptable).
6. Two (2) letters of recommendation.
Those who pass the first level of review will be contacted for an interview. Further documentation may be required, including a certificate of health.
